Gone Hiking, Part II

March 20, 2011

Since I ended up taking a ton of photos (what else is new?) during my hike in the Helyar Woods a few weeks ago, here is the second batch of photos. (Part I here.)

Super crazy-curly branch

Forest litter

You’re going to see a bunch of these coming up. Have no idea what they were, but they made for a cool subject. The field where they were kind of reminded me of the island made of plants from Life of Pi.

Bad hair day

Typical pose. Waiting for me to catch up.

Purple tangle

Probably a dog’s print

Another lone leaf

… 😀

A dreamy little brook

Secrets of the forest

I’m hoping for more hiking adventures as the weather continues to warm up!

Gassspp! I love these so much! Love the hubby waiting for you as you snap away! Those blooms remind me of turnips…what are they? You make everything look like something I would hang on my wall…you are truly talented!

Aw, Mary, you’re too sweet! Thanks so much.
I have no idea what they are! They weren’t even buds, just random plant balls? Hahahaha!
Yeah, thankfully the hubby is used to my photo adventures!

Lovely shots. I especially admire that first closeup of the curly branch!

Thank you, Jan! Yes, it was so odd that a branch can curl like that.

I really like the black and white lone leaf. For someone who claims to love vibrant colors as much as you, I think you do some great work with black and whites.

I also like the secrets of the forest image. It is certainly different. Did you use a filter on that or just change the colors in post-processing?

Thanks, Nate! The compliment on b+w means a lot. I do like experimenting with different techniques but I usually always find myself going back to vivid color.

The colors in Secrets of the Forest were done in post-processing. I think some kind of cross-processing preset in Lightroom maybe. I’ll have to go back and check. All of these were shot with a 50mm lens though.
